Why I wrote Three Wolves At Your Door

After more than 30 years in the financial services industry, I felt a responsibility to share some of the lessons I had learned along the way. Too many investors are making important financial decisions without fully understanding how the system around them really works.
That realization didn’t arrive in a single moment. It was built over three decades of watching how investors, advisors, financial institutions, and regulators interact within a system most people never fully see, and noticing the gap between the value the industry delivers and the knowledge investors need to fully benefit from it.

Over time, I came to believe that successful investing is not only about picking the right products but also about understanding the system in which those choices are made.

That realization eventually led me to write Three Wolves at Your Door. The three wolves represent financial institutions, advisors, and government: three powerful forces that shape what we earn, what we pay, and ultimately what we keep. The book also examines a fourth influence that often determines outcomes more than any of the others: our own behaviour.

The book is not anti-bank, anti-advisor, or anti-government. Each plays a vital role in helping Canadians build wealth. My goal is simply to help investors better understand the system, recognize competing interests when they exist, and make decisions from a position of greater knowledge and confidence.

As I transition from industry insider to investor advocate, my hope is that this book helps start a broader conversation: about transparency, wealth literacy, and what it really takes for Canadians to get better financial outcomes.
